biography
Born in 1992 in Casper, Wyoming, Bret now lives in New York City with his parents and dog on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. and is starting his senior year at the Summit School. Bret started filmmaking in a summer program for youth run by the New York Film Academy and made his first two short films there. By the time he was 15, those two short films, “A Day At the Zoo” and “Learning to Curse,” were official selections in over 30 prestigious film festivals around the world. Bret was chosen for an intensive High School Video workshop series at The Jewish Museum in NYC. Later, he was one of a handful of students selected for the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) Media Arts Program, successfully completing a college-level course in Digital Video production at Ithaca College. His short film, “Dumb Luck” (4 min.) was made entirely independently, with the generosity of many, when Bret was 16. This past summer, Bret repeated his experience at the New York State Summer School of the Arts in Media Arts in Oswego. He produced and directed an experimental dance film. In addition to school and filmmaking, Bret participates in a school-sponsored internship at a Consolidated Edison Power plant. His high school asked him to make a short film to promote the internship. Con Edison liked the entertaining music video so much, they decided to put it on their website! Bret’s other interests include competitive swimming, wildlife conservation, World of WarCraft, and the Discovery Channel.
