YOUTH INITIATIVE YOUNG FILMMAKER'S PANEL
This year the Young Filmmaker's Panel will feature one of the Festival's Honorees Francesco Quin as well as noted producer Jim Jermanok and our Youth Initiative Mentor Filmmakers Michael Large, Richard Calvache, Alain Xalabarde and Holly Moore. After a week of working on their own films, the youth of the Renaissance Charter School, The OWN Middle School and the Frank Sinatra High School for the Arts will get a chance to speak to professionals from the industry. The topics covered will include how to break into and succeed in the entertainment industry; how to promote yourself and your work; how to develop you own unique career path and if time permits we will compare acting conservatories to universities. The panel will run 90 minutes and will be facilitated by the co-directors of the Youth Initiative, Don and Katha Cato. Click here for more information on the Youth Initiative

WOMEN IN FILM
Since the advent of the moving image, women have made significant contributions both in front of and behind the camera. At every point in the evolution of the film industry, women have offered their guidance and insight. Yet even today their role is often obscured in a male dominated industry. Women such as experimental filmmaker Maya Deren to commercial success story Penny Marshall have had their achievements attached to a male predecessor of significant power. Do women in film have to mediate their careers through a male figure? How have women contributed to film outside the patriarchal establishment? Is it easier for women to take the lead in the industry today rather than taking the traditional role in film-making process as actress, editor or script supervisor (all traditionally female career-paths in the industry)? These are some of the questions the "Women In Film" panel will address. Please join this lively discussion along with our panelists.
